From July 28th to 30th, fans from across the nation and beyond came together to immerse themselves in a sea of colorful costumes, panels, workshops, and exhibitions.

At the heart of Otakon lies a rich display of creativity expressed through cosplay – the art of dressing up as favorite characters from anime, manga, video games, movies, and more. The convention center was transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colors and characters, with attendees donning meticulously crafted costumes that brought their beloved characters to life. From iconic figures like Naruto and Sailor Moon to characters from the latest releases, the convention floor was a sight to behold.

Otakon has always been a hub for learning and engagement. The convention featured a diverse array of panels and workshops, inviting fans to delve deeper into their interests. Industry professionals, artists, and enthusiasts shared insights on a wide range of topics, from animation techniques and voice acting to character development and storytelling in manga.

For those interested in honing their artistic skills, workshops provided hands-on experience in drawing, painting, and digital art. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from established artists and gain practical knowledge that they could apply to their own creative endeavors.

One of the highlights of Otakon 2023 was the lineup of celebrity guests that graced the event. Voice actors, directors, illustrators, and creators from the anime and manga industry engaged with fans through panels, autograph sessions, and meet-and-greet opportunities. This direct interaction allowed attendees to gain insight into the world of their favorite shows and characters, and to appreciate the hard work that goes into bringing these stories to life.

Beyond the costumes and merchandise, Otakon is about fostering a sense of community and connection among fans. Attendees were able to bond over shared interests, engage in discussions about their favorite series, and make new friends who share their passion. The convention environment encourages open dialogue and inclusivity, creating a space where people from diverse backgrounds can come together and celebrate their love for anime and pop culture.

Naohiro Kasuya - Headmaster (lemoto)

Pictured here is Lemoto (headmaster) of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana, and son of the late Akihiro Kasuya, from whom he learned Ikebana from an early age. On January 20th 2019, he inherited leadership of Ichiyo Ikebana School to become the 4th generation headmaster. His late father encouraged developing one’s imagination through their own interpretation of nature, saying “if flower arranging is to be truly fulfilling, it should be a reflection of oneself.” Naohiro is following the legacy of his late father.

Ikebana, also known as kado, or the “way of flowers,” is a traditional Japanese art form that involves the arrangement of flowers and other natural materials in a stylized manner. Ikebana cherished by both experts and novices. This new generation of enthusiasts are drawn to its innovative spirit and contemporary style.
