Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein Memorial

The Albert Einstein Memorial is a monumental bronze statue by sculptor Robert Berks, depicting Albert Einstein seated with manuscript papers in hand. Perched on North Carolina granite, he is looking as if he is pondering some of his key equations. The memorial is located in central Washington, DC, in a grove of trees at the southwest corner of the grounds of the National Academy of Sciences, near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

DC War Memorial

This memorial was built in 1931 to honor resident World War I soldiers that died in the war. It was the first war memorial to be erected in West Potomac Park, part of the National Mall near the Lincoln Memorial, and remains the only local District memorial on the National Mall. The names of the 499 Washington, DC soldiers who lost their lives are inscribed in the base of the memorial. It is made of Vermont marble.


FDR Memorial

Located just south of the Mall along the wetern bank of the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States, and the only president elected more than two times. His memorial is one of the largest of all the presidential monuments, taking visitors through the story of his presidency. The FDR Memorial is the only memorial to include a statue for a first lady, and a presidential pet, his dog, Fala. The FDR Memorial was created from red granite.

George Mason

George Mason Memorial

24 E Basin Drive SW (located in West Potomac Park which is a part of the Tidal Basin), Washington DC
This is a memorial to Founding Father George Mason, the author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights that inspired the United States Bill of Rights. He persuaded our forefathers to include individual rights. The memorial includes a sculpture of Mason, a pool, trellis, circular hedges, and numerous inscriptions. It was the first memorial in the Tidal Basin area to be dedicated to someone who was not a former President of the United States.

Iwo Jima

Iwo Jima War Memorial

Located near Arlington National Cemetary across the Potomac River from Washington, DC
This memorial is also known as the US Marine Corps War Memorial. It honors the Marines who have died defending the United States since 1775. Engraved in the base are the words "In honor and in memory of the men of the United States Marine Corps who have given their lives to their country since November 10, 1775." The Memorial is on a hill that overlooks Washington, DC and has a spectacular view of the nation's capital. The memorial is open daily, 24 hours.

Jefferson Memorial

Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father who was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and later served as the third President of the United States from 1801 to 1809. The Jefferson Memorial is surrounded by water, and the structure is located on the National Mall's Tidal Basin. The Jefferson Memorial was officially dedicated by President Roosevelt on April 13, 1943, the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birthday.


John Ericsson

John Ericsson Memorial

Located near the National Mall at Ohio Drive and Independence Avenue, SW, in Washington, DC
John Ericsson revolutionized naval history with his invention of the screw propeller. This Swedish engineer was also the designer of the USS Monitor, the ship that ensured Union naval supremacy during the American Civil War. The idea for the 1926 Ericsson Memorial Issue came from the John Ericsson Memorial Commission, which had raised funds to create a memorial to the inventor. Postmaster General Harry New approved the stamp with less resistance than almost any other issued during his tenure.

Korean War Memorial

Located in Washington, DC's West Potomac Park, southeast of the Lincoln Memorial and just south of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. It memorializes those who served in the Korean War. To the Americans, the Korean War was the last thing they wanted to memorialize. So, the creation of this memorial itself was a great achievement. On the south side of the memorial, there are three bushes of South Korea's national flower, the Rose of Sharon.

Lincoln Memorial

Abraham Lincoln, was the 16th President of the United States and led the nation during the American Civil War. A sculpture of Lincoln sitting on a chair is inside the Memorial. The sculpture shows the President looking towards the reflecting pool and the Washington Monument. Included are inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln, The Gettysburg Address and his second inaugural address.


Martin Luther King Memorial

1964 Independence Avenue SW Washington DC (in honor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964)
The location of this memorial is nearby National Mall in West Potomac Park in Washington D.C. It consists of a granite statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. Lei Yixin was the sculptor of the statue, which depicts the Civil Rights Movement leader. The Stone of Hope is also located within the memorial. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial spans on the area of 4 acres.

Navy Merchant Marine Memorial

Located in Lady Bird Johnson Park on Columbia Island in Washington, D.C., is a monument honoring sailors of the United States Navy, Coast Guard, the United States Merchant Marine, the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps and others who died at sea during World War I and other times.

The Arts of War and Peace Statues at Arlington Memorial Bridge

Bronze, fire-gilded statue groups on Lincoln Memorial Circle in West Potomac Park in Washington, DC. The Arts of War were sculpted by Leo Friedlander, an American sculptor. The group consists of two separate elements, Valor and Sacrifice, which frame the entrance to Arlington Memorial Bridge. The Arts of Peace were sculpted by James Earle Fraser, an American sculptor. The group consists of two separate elements, Music and Harvest and Aspiration and Literature.


Theodore Roosevelt Memorial

Theodore Roosevelt Memorial

The only memorial to the 26th president of the United States in the nation’s capital is a small island in the Potomac River know as Theodroe Roosevelt Island. It is maintained as a National Park and has various walking trails. This architectural memorial and the restored natural landscape surrounding it together form a living memorial to the man known as the “Great Conservationist.” Theodore Roosevelt was the first president to make conservation of America’s natural resources a centerpiece of his domestic policy.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, also called the Wall, honors the men and women who died in the Vietnam War. It is a black granite wall which has the names of every American killed in the war. It was designed by Maya Lin in 1981 and is in Washington, DC. This memorial honors service members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, service members who died in service in Vietnam/South East Asia, and those service members who were unaccounted for during the war.

World War II Memorial

The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. The memorial is a monument to the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of the American people. The Memorial is an oval shape with two 43-foot arches, representing the war's Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Fifty-six pillars represent the states, territories and the District of Columbia at the time of the World War II.
