For 2025, the US Capitol Christmas Tree – affectionately known as “The People’s Tree” – is making history. This year’s tree is “Silver Belle,” a 53-foot red fir from Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the largest national forest in the continental United States and the first from Nevada ever selected for the Capitol display.

Harvested from the Carson Ranger District near Mt. Rose in the Sierra Nevada, Silver Belle is around 48–50 years old, with a 16-foot canopy spread and dense, upward-pointing blue-green needles – ideal for thousands of ornaments.

A New Chapter for “The People’s Tree”

The 2025 theme, “Starry Skies to Neon Lights: Spirit of the Silver State,” celebrates everything from Nevada’s dark desert skies to the glow of Las Vegas, and it’s featured on the official logo and tour branding.

Humboldt-Toiyabe spans roughly 6.3 million acres across Nevada and a slice of eastern California, making it the largest national forest in the lower 48 states.

The tree’s nickname, Silver Belle, nods both to the “Silver State” and classic holiday imagery. Forest Service fact sheets describe her as having an almost perfectly uniform crown and sturdy branches – exactly what the Architect of the Capitol tea

Who’s Hauling the Holiday Magic?

For the 12th year, a Kenworth T680 featuring a special design will transport the US Capitol Christmas Tree to Washington, DC.

Knight-Swift, Kenworth & Friends: The Transport Team

Getting a 53-foot tree across nearly 3,000 miles is a serious logistics project, and 2025 brings some big industry names into the holiday spotlight:

  • Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings: As the largest truckload carrier in North America, Knight-Swift is providing the primary transportation for Silver Belle.
  • Kenworth Truck Company: Kenworth is supplying a specially wrapped truck designed for hauling oversized loads.
  • Support Team: Route planners and safety coordinators work with local authorities along the way.
  • Southwest Airlines: Southwest helps move thousands of handmade ornaments created by Nevadans so the decorations can arrive in DC on time.

For fans tracking the journey, Kenworth’s online Tree Tracker offers real-time GPS updates as Silver Belle rolls toward the Capitol.

The truck’s design celebrates the “Spirit of the Silver State” with a background of the sunset overlooking Nevada’s National Forest.
